Bonnyville’s Santa Clause Parade Planning in the Works
There is a committee formed in Bonnyville to bring a Santa Clause Parade to the town in the winter. The committee was formed in January and worked hard securing permits and ensuring the town wanted a parade. It appears the demand is there, so now they are looking for businesses to get involved by confirming they will participate in the event.
The date of the parade is yet-to-be-announced, however Mayor of Bonnyville Gene Sobolewski says the committee is heavy into the planning stages. “We have a growing number of people in the community that really want to see something like this. They made a presentation to council and they’re making sure they have enough support. They’d like to have a minimum of 30 floats.”
Mayor Sobolewski says the committee and the Town are working with the Bonnyville & District Chamber of Commerce to help bring the dream of a Santa Clause parade to live, “we’re excited about it.” The Mayor says the town is no stranger to this type of celebration, “we used to have this parade, but it weened itself down.”
“We know there’s going to be challenges, the main one being it’s winter and the weather,” the Mayor explains that the magic of the parade should overshadow the chilly weather, “it’s lights, it Christmas, it’s something the businesses can do as an event and it’s something the town can do.”
“If it draws interest like the Canada Day parade it should be very exciting,” states Mayor Sobolewski.
