Armed Robbery at Kehewin General Store
On August 14th, 2015 at approximately 10:00 am, Bonnyville RCMP received a report of an armed robbery with injuries from the Kehewin General Store.
A lone male, with a rifle, had entered the store and demanding cash. The teller attempted to hand over the cash when a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the gun went off with a round discharged into the ceiling of the store. Due to the struggle, the teller sustained injuries. The injuries were not due to the rifle being discharged.
RCMP members from Bonnyville responded and although a road block was set up, they were not successful in locating the suspect at that time. However, as the day went on, information was shared with officers and two suspects were arrested in connection to the crime.
Douglas JOHN (Age: 18) from Kehewin with Use of firearm in committing a robbery, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, pointing a firearm, careless handling of a firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
The other accused is a youth facing similar charges who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
