The Great Elk Point Selfie Challenge has launched! This is the second year the community has called on its residents, and visitors, to go discover the town and have fun while you’re doing it. Rec Coordinator for the Town of Elk Point, Jena Colbourne, says it’s an opportunity for people to spend some time with friends and family, exploring the town.
“There’s a lot of great places in our town, and a lot of great places you forget about; even when you live here,” Colbourne says the Selfie Challenge is a great way to check out some town attractions. “The picture element was important, we wanted people to not only have those memories, but to be able to look back on them for years to come.” Have them selfie style was really just an added touch of fun, “who doesn’t like selfies! Even before we had a word for it or social media, people were taking selfies. Plus, who likes to be the one taking all the pictures and never being in them?”
Speaking of socials, the Town has launched some new platforms, says Colbourne, “it’s important to reach the people where they are. We have our newly designed website, which is awesome! We’ve had Facebook for quite a while now, but just in the last three months we’ve launched Twitter and Instagram.” You can find Elk Point @townofelkpoint on these platforms.
Moving onto the prizes, Colbourne explains, “we wanted that friends-family bonding experience to continue after the game, so we decided to give away professional photography sessions. We have two local photography companies participating, Beauteous Images and Miss B Photography. Each studio has offered a one hour photo session, along with your digital copies. The winner of the challenge will pick which studio they’d like to go with and then second place will get the other studio.” In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen by random draw, confirms Colbourne. “Keeping with the bonding, Empress Restaurant & Lounge is donating a $50 gift certificate to the third place winner.”
Contest closes June 26th at 11:59pm. Contestants can email their selfies to recreation@elkpoint.ca. You may send all at once, or as you go- please include your name in the subject along with contact information in the body. For more information visit elkpoint.ca.
