NLPS asks for 25-26 school calendar survey, should school always start after Labour Day?
Northern Lights Public Schools wants feedback as they put together their schedule.
The work on the 2025-26 school calendar is beginning as NLPS wants to gather feedback with a survey.
In year’s past, the school division would draft the calendar and ask the feedback. Now they want to ask specific questions.
Things like:
- Should school always start after Labour Day?
- Would you prefer more or fewer no-school days during the year?
- Would you like longer or shorter breaks?
- Should a November break be added to the calendar?
The school calendar has to balance a variety of factors, including:
- Instructional time requirements from the Guide to Education;
- Legislated requirements such as those in the Education Act;
- Statutory holidays;
- Collective agreements; and
- The needs of families and communities.
“While student success is always our top priority, we also strive to create a calendar that works well for students, staff, and families. Your feedback is essential in helping us shape calendars that best meet the needs of our school community,” the school board says.
The survey is now open until January 21, giving everyone two weeks to participate.
