Cold Lake First Nations is giving businesses in Cold Lake and the surrounding region advance notice of a significant influx of money expected in December as members prepare to receive their Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits per capita distribution.
In a public notice dated October 28, Cold Lake First Nations said the distribution is tentatively scheduled for December 10, 2026, although the date has not yet been finalized.
The Nation is encouraging local businesses to prepare for increased customer traffic and demand as members receive their payments.
“This distribution will bring a significant amount of money into Cold Lake and the surrounding region over a short period,” the notice states.
Businesses encouraged to prepare for increased demand
Cold Lake First Nations anticipates a substantial increase in customer volume, along with greater demand for inventory and supplies.
Businesses are being encouraged to review staffing levels for the days surrounding the distribution, confirm inventory and supplier delivery schedules, and ensure employees are familiar with workplace safety and security procedures.
The notice also identifies the potential for increased public disorder and criminal mischief during a period when a large amount of money enters the local economy.
CLFN describes these as potential concerns that could arise in any community experiencing a significant influx of funds.
Distribution date still tentative
The upcoming payments are identified as the Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits per capita distribution, with the Nation expecting the money to circulate through Cold Lake and surrounding communities.
The public notice does not specify how much individual members will receive or the total amount expected to be distributed.

Daniel McLaughlin, Interim Director of Operations for Cold Lake First Nations Administration, said businesses will be notified once the distribution date is confirmed.
Businesses with questions can contact McLaughlin at 780-573-5056.
The anticipated distribution date remains December 10, subject to change.
