A 30-year-old Bonnyville man is facing 18 criminal charges after RCMP say shots were fired between two pickup trucks racing through the Town of Mundare, sparking a major police response involving multiple detachments, specialized units and a police helicopter.

 

Kobi Rosichuk, 30, of Bonnyville, was arrested following the September 29 incident and has been remanded into custody.

 

Vegreville RCMP received multiple reports of a firearms complaint around 7:19 p.m. after witnesses reported two pickup trucks racing through Mundare, with an occupant of one vehicle allegedly firing a gun at the other.

 

Police identified the vehicles as a GMC Sierra and a Ford F-350. Investigators determined the GMC Sierra was being shot at by an occupant of the Ford.

 

The incident prompted a large-scale police response involving RCMP detachments from Vegreville, Two Hills, Smoky Lake, St. Paul, Fort Saskatchewan and Sherwood Park.

 

Additional support came from the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre, Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Police Dog Services from St. Paul and Lloydminster, the North Emergency Response Team, Integrated Offender Management and the Edmonton Police Service AIR1 helicopter.

The Edmonton Police Service AIR1 helicopter located the Ford F-350, allowing RCMP officers on the ground to attempt a traffic stop.

 

Police say the driver fled from officers in a rural area before the vehicle was eventually stopped.

 

The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

 

RCMP confirmed no injuries were reported among police officers or members of the public.

 

Bonnyville man charged with 18 offences

 

As a result of the investigation, Kobi Rosichuk, 30, of Bonnyville, was charged with the following offences, as listed by RCMP:

 

  • Flight from peace officer (X3);
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (X2);
  • Operate a motor vehicle while prohibited (X2);
  • Assault peace officer;
  • Mischief over $5000 (X2);
  • Resist arrest;
  • Mischief causing danger to life (X2);
  • Discharge firearm with intent;
  • Unauthorized possession in motor vehicle;
  • Possession while prohibited;
  • Break and enter;
  • Mischief over $5000.

 

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Rosichuk was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville on October 5, 2026.

 

The charges have not been proven in court.
