Arlene Ann Dion, sākāstew iskwew who was born on March 20, 1948, and passed away on October 3, 2026, will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew her. She lived a life marked by kindness, thoughtfulness, and a generous spirit that touched her family, friends, and community in lasting ways. Her presence brought comfort and warmth, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
Arlene was a devoted mother, kokum, chapan, sister, and relative whose greatest joy came from caring for her family. She cherished her children and took great pride in the lives they built. She is lovingly remembered by Desiree and her children Kayla, Cheech, Deja, and chapans Luna, Santiago, and Riverly; Shana and her child Delton; Amber and her children Demaris, Lyric; JJ, Sheyna, and their children Shayd and Lily; and Nadine’s daughter Wyome and chapans McKennon and Lexi. Her love extended naturally to each generation, and she embraced her family with patience, encouragement, and steady devotion. She was the kind of mother and kokum who made others feel safe, welcomed, and deeply cared for.
She is also survived by her sister Karen Genz and Harold, her brother-in-law Joe and Ruth Dion, and her sisters-in-law Leona Makokis, Florence Dion. Arlene held family ties close to her heart and valued the bonds that connected her to those around her. She was predeceased by her husband George Dion, her daughter Nadine Dion, her parents Julia and John Leo Mac Donald, and her sister Linda Mac Donald. She was also predeceased by her mother & father-in-law Sarah & Billy Dion, as well as brother and sister in-laws Benny, Peter, Maggie, Florence, Roland, Roseanna, Madeline, Alice, and James. These loved ones were an important part of her life, and she carried their memory with her always.
Arlene had a quiet strength that helped those around her feel supported, and she offered her time and attention freely. Her home and her heart were places of comfort, and she made many feel as though they belonged.
A two-day Wake will begin on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kehewin Community Centre, with the Journey Home beginning at Northern Lights Funeral Chapel in Bonnyville at 1:00 p.m. A Traditional Funeral will be held on Friday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, followed by the final resting place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Kehewin Cree Nation.
