“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

To all who had the privilege of knowing her, Mags was a woman of deep faith and integrity. Her kindness, testimony, wisdom, and steadfast trust in God, touched countless lives. Her light, like her smile shone wherever God called her and in every life she touched. Her love, faith, laughter and devotion will continue to live on in her family and the many lives she touched.

Born in London, England, in the midst of WWII, Mags lived a life that was quietly extraordinary. From her youth, she had a deep sense of compassion and a commitment to ministry.

Her trust in God was not simply something she spoke about, it was woven into every aspect of her life. Mags served as a registered nurse and midwife in London, then as a Red Cross nurse in Nigeria during the Biafran war. She later immigrated to Canada, taking a temporary nursing position in Alberta as part of her global travels but here she met Richard and they married in April 1971, and she ended up living more of her life in Canada than she ever expected. After returning from Ecuador to Canada, Mags devoted herself to raising their growing family and to ministries in their church and community. Her desire was always to lead others to Christ; teaching Sunday School, leading ladies’ groups and prayer meetings, directing programs, and faithfully stepping into any role where she sensed God’s leading.

She loved to tell others how God was so evident throughout her life protecting and guiding her, including how God called her to be a nurse, told her who she was to marry, honored her desire for many children, and later leading her to start a private Christian school, with Richard and her close friend, Lynn. She enjoyed her role at the school as she could share the love of God daily. This kept her working when many others would have considered retirement.

In 2022, Margaret received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal—a surprise public honour that echoed the quiet faithfulness she lived out every day.

Margaret is lovingly remembered as a faithful and devoted wife to Richard; mother and friend to her children: Philip, Christina, James (Sheri), Grace, Daniel (Joyanne), David (Crystal), John (Stefanie), and Joy (Jeremy); and a beloved Granny to twelve— always game for anything: dress up, hide and seek, or whatever fun thing they thought up together. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother and sisters, her in-laws, her many nieces and nephews, and her close friends. She had a wonderful gift for making people feel loved, and those who knew her, knew how much she treasured their time together.

She would say she is now more alive than ever and her greatest desire would be that all those she knew, would also know her Father in heaven.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Hands at Work in Africa. (www.handsatwork.org/)
