It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Larry Lambert, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Louise, and their 5 children, Sherry, Laurie, Kelly, Kim, and Brent. Dad’s only wish was that we all be together during this time, and with our spouses and his grandchildren, we are forever grateful that we were all there in the weeks leading up to his passing. He always said that his best days were time spent with family and friends, which meant many memories made with all our Aunts, Uncles, and cousins, camping, fishing, and summers at the lake. He cherished family time during every holiday, always making sure we were all together. It was our privilege to gather once more, offering company, comfort and support to him, and to each other.
Larry was born April 22, 1939, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to George and Isabel Lambert. He was the second of 3 boys, between Curtis and Gene, with their sister Linda being the youngest. Like most small-town boys, hockey, ball, and community were central to everything, and all his stories were filled with wonderful memories of his brothers, sister, and family. Larry went on to attend Teacher’s College, where he met Louise Pinder, who would become his wife and partner for 65 years, and together they built a life that welcomed their 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Their strength and commitment to each other have always been an inspiration, as they navigated life’s joys and sorrows.
Larry began his teaching career in Vanguard,SK, then moved to Alberta where he became Principal in Delia, Swan Hills, and then Ashmont, before retiring in 1994. He built life-long friendships with his staff, and the people of each community, and was always giving back by volunteering for any committee or board that needed him. The list is long, but the most recent being NEARTA, ARTA, Mannawanis Friendship Centre, and the St. Paul & District Food Bank, where he served for many years. Many lives were made brighter through his commitment to community and dedication to helping others.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife, Louise; his children, with their spouses, Sherry (John) Shumay, Laurie (Sheldon) Thunstrom, Kelly (Murray) Scoggins, Kim (Robert) Hurtubise and Brent (Melissa) Lambert; cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler (Bree) Shumay, Shannon (Garritt), Brittany (Craig), their children, Emerson, Huxley, Elora, Seamus, Paul (Christa) Fontaine, Bailee Scoggins, Matthew, Eric Hurtubise, Megan, Erin, Cael Lambert; brothers, Curtis (Verle), Gene (Connie); sister-in-law, Lavada Pinder; and his precious nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, George and Isabel; sister, Linda; and his grandson, Brady Scoggins.
