A four-day crime reduction operation in Lloydminster led to dozens of arrests, vehicle seizures and hundreds of traffic enforcement actions as police agencies from Alberta and Saskatchewan joined forces to target repeat offenders and ongoing public safety concerns.

“Operations such as this deter crime, in addition to making drivers become more aware of obeying traffic laws which makes our city safer,” said Cpl. Jason DeCoste of the Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “By bringing in partner agencies and other RCMP units we are able to effectively enforce laws with a goal of enhancing safety for all residents.”

The coordinated enforcement initiative took place between July 14 and July 17 and involved the Lloydminster RCMP, Lloydminster General Investigative Services and Crime Reduction Unit, K Division RCMP Air Services, Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services, F Division Crime Reduction Teams, Saskatchewan Marshals Service, F Division Combined Traffic Services, Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, Kitscoty Crime Reduction Unit and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT).

According to RCMP, the operation focused on non-compliant drivers, individuals with outstanding arrest warrants and people or locations that had been identified as ongoing enforcement concerns.

During the four-day initiative, officers:

• Stopped more than 200 vehicles.
• Issued 118 provincial violation tickets.
• Issued 197 warnings.
• Issued 17 drug-related licence suspensions and vehicle impounds.
• Issued 11 alcohol-related licence suspensions and vehicle impounds.
• Seized 28 vehicles.
• Laid two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges.
• Laid 16 additional Criminal Code charges.
• Executed 52 outstanding arrest warrants.
• Recovered stolen property and addressed various other offences, including municipal bylaw contraventions.

RCMP say operations involving multiple specialized units allow officers to focus resources on individuals believed to pose an elevated risk to public safety while increasing police visibility throughout the community.
