November 14, 1946 ~ May 23, 2026 (age 79)

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret MacDonald on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the age of 79 years after a brief illness.

Formally, of Tower Road, Nova Scotia, and now residing in Cold Lake, Alberta, mom was born on November 14, 1946 in Lowell, Massachusetts; she was the youngest child of Teddy & Florence Villineau.

Margaret, or Maggie as she was known to her many friends, worked briefly at Family Products and at Alexanders Supermarket, where she met the love of her life, our dad Peter, who moved from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia at the age of 18 for work.

Mom tells the story that as soon as she laid eyes on Dad, she told her sisters she was going to marry him! They married on May 6, 1967 and started their family in 1968. While living in Lowell they had two daughters, and after a few years they packed up the family and moved back to Cape Breton, where they had a son and another daughter, which completed their family. They just celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Mom had many interests and hobbies; she loved baking, camping, knitting, crocheting and swimming. It has been said that she taught every child in the neighborhood how to swim! Mom was an avid fisherman and loved casting her line with her fishing buddies, Mickey Burchell and Glenn McKinnon.

Mom was a member of St. Anthonys Parish. Some would say she was a die hard Catholic; she loved the Lord and proudly wore her scapula daily.

Margaret is lovingly survived by her husband, Peter; her daughters, Laurie (Nancy), Tracy (Dwayne), Amanda (Rolly); and her son, Scott (Leanne). She has one surviving sister, Pat MacLenna.

Also surviving are her pride and joys – her six grandchildren: Anthony, Ashley, Mhairi, Ryan, Tory and Maggie, and one treasured great grandson, Adrien. She also leaves behind three step-grandchildren: Ainsley, Bennett and Hunter.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Celebration of Life, Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, Cold Lake, Alberta with Father Limneo Zamora officiating.
