Regional collaboration, population growth and community partnerships were among the topics discussed during the May 25 Town of St. Paul council meeting.

Council reviewed ongoing discussions surrounding the future of the St. Paul airport and the possibility of broader regional involvement moving forward.

Administration said conversations continue around regionalization efforts tied to the airport, including how the facility could potentially serve a larger role within the region through shared planning and long-term cooperation between municipalities.

The discussion was part of broader conversations around economic development and regional sustainability.

Council also discussed rural immigration initiatives and workforce attraction programs aimed at helping smaller communities address labour shortages and population challenges.

Administration noted many rural communities across Alberta are now exploring immigration pathways and regional partnerships as a way to help attract workers, families and long-term residents.

The conversation tied closely into other recent regional discussions surrounding housing shortages, economic development and workforce retention.

Council later reviewed proposed revisions to agreements involving the Centennial Senior Citizens Opportunity Club and the St. Paul Senior Citizens Club.

Councillors raised questions regarding portions of the agreements and requested additional amendments and clarification before moving forward.

Some items were tabled to allow administration time to make revisions and bring the agreements back for further review.

Council members noted the importance of maintaining strong working relationships with local seniors organizations while ensuring agreements remain clear and sustainable for all parties involved.
