The Lakeland Extreme Broncs & Bulls event is gaining serious momentum heading into 2026 — and now has municipal backing to help it grow.

At the April 28 meeting, M.D. of Bonnyville council approved $15,000 in funding for one year, supporting the continued expansion of the rodeo event, including a proposed additional show in Bonnyville this August.

While council stopped short of a multi-year commitment, the funding signals confidence in an event that’s quickly becoming a regional draw.

And based on what’s coming — it’s not hard to see why.

A Full Xtreme Experience — Not Just Rodeo

Organizers are leaning hard into the full event atmosphere, not just the competition.

The newly announced “Dance in the Dirt” entertainment lineup will keep the energy going after the arena clears each night, featuring:

  • The Rivard Sisters
  • Andre Gagner
  • Mainstreet headlining both nights

With cold drinks, live music and a packed dance floor, organizers are positioning the event as more than a rodeo — it’s a full weekend experience.

Top Riders From Across the Country (and Beyond)

The competition side is just as stacked.

The 2026 event will feature:

  • Bull riders from across Canada and Australia
  • A full slate of elite saddle bronc riders
  • 30 competitors battling through long and short rounds for top honours

“Riders from across Canada… all chasing the same goal — an eight-second ride and a shot at the top,” organizers shared ahead of the event.

Fan Experience Getting an Upgrade

One of the biggest draws returning this year is the Czar Lake Bull-A-Rama Shark Cage.

Eight fans per round will be randomly selected to step inside the cage — putting them directly in the arena during live bull riding.

It’s the kind of feature that turns spectators into part of the show.

Council Weighs Growth vs. Risk

Despite the excitement, council discussion focused on balancing support with accountability.

The original ask was for a two-year sponsorship commitment, but councillors raised concerns about locking in funding without seeing long-term results.

There were also questions around the event’s structure, as a for-profit operation that also supports community groups.

In the end, council landed on a one-year approval — giving organizers the opportunity to prove continued success before returning for future funding.

Looking Ahead

With a growing rider lineup, expanded entertainment and increasing attendance, the event is positioning itself as a major regional attraction.

And now, with municipal support behind it — 2026 is shaping up to be its biggest year yet.
