LIFEGUARD (CASUAL)

The Town of Bonnyville is seeking a motivated and responsible individual to join its team as a Lifeguard. This is a casual, team-oriented position running from May to August, offering an opportunity to work in a dynamic aquatic environment while supporting community recreation and safety.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• National Lifeguard Certification
• Intermediate First Aid with CPR “C”
• Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification
• Minimum of six (6) months experience
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to maintain physical fitness standards as required by the Lifesaving Society – National Lifeguard Standards

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

• Pool Operator Level 1
• Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform lifeguarding and instructional duties to ensure patron safety.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility.
• Manage lesson administration, including attendance tracking, evaluations, and report cards.
• Assist with front counter duties such as pass sales, bookings, and cash handling when required.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with community members.
• Enforce facility rules and ensure safe use of all amenities.
• Supervise Junior Lifeguards and Casual Admin staff when required.
• Conduct water testing, pump checks, and chemical maintenance to ensure safe pool conditions.
• Maintain organized chemical storage and ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are accessible and up to date.
• Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pool Supervisor or Head Lifeguard.
• Work evenings and weekends as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Fast-paced aquatic facility setting.
• Requires standing for long periods, physical activity, and working in humid conditions.
• Shift work including evenings and weekends.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing is required.
• Must comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Town policies.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

• May 2026 to August 2026
  (Start and end dates subject to environmental conditions and budget considerations.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment to meet eligibility requirements.
