A serious collision involving two semi-trucks has shut down Highway 881 north of Heart Lake, with RCMP warning drivers to stay off the roads as conditions continue to deteriorate across Eastern Alberta.
Highway 881 blocked in both directions
Lac La Biche RCMP are currently on scene of a crash involving two semis, where one of the loads has been compromised. Debris is now scattered across the highway, making it completely impassable in both directions.
Emergency crews are responding, and police say travel on Highway 881 in this area is not recommended at this time.
Drivers are urged to check Alberta 511 for the latest road conditions and updates.

This incident comes as RCMP respond to numerous collisions throughout Eastern Alberta.
Kitscoty RCMP say driving conditions are extremely poor across a wide area including Kitscoty, Vermilion, Lloydminster and surrounding communities.
High winds, blowing snow, icy roads and reduced visibility are creating hazardous conditions on several highways, including:
- Highway 897
- Highway 41
- Highway 45
- Highway 16
Travel not recommended
RCMP are strongly advising against travel in affected areas until conditions improve.
