Funding decisions were a key focus at the latest MD of Bonnyville council meeting, with support approved across agriculture, infrastructure cleanup and community programming.
Veterinary services funding increased
Council approved an increase to the Veterinary Services Inc. (VSI) program, raising the 2026 budget to $163,700.
The increase was recommended by the Agricultural Services Board to reflect rising costs and demand.
The program helps ensure rural producers have access to veterinary care, supporting both animal health and the broader agricultural sector.
$150,000 approved for storm cleanup
Following a January windstorm, council also approved $150,000 to clean up fallen trees and debris across the municipality.
The work will focus on clearing:
- municipal ditches
- rights-of-way
- woody debris and downed trees
The cleanup is expected to improve drainage, visibility and overall road safety.
Funding will come from the municipality’s cashflow reserve.
Shooting range expansion request still under review
The Bonnyville Shooting Sports Association presented to council requesting $30,000 to expand its facility with a new sporting clay shooting trail.
The group said the expansion would help attract larger events and visitors to the region.
“Sporting clay… is pretty much golfing with a shotgun,” the group told council.
They also highlighted the economic impact seen in other communities hosting similar events, with some generating over $1 million in local spending.
Council did not approve the funding at this meeting, instead directing administration to bring the request back for further consideration.
Funding approved for adaptive ski program
Council did approve funding for the Canadian Adaptive Snow Sports (CADS) program, which supports individuals with disabilities accessing skiing and snowboarding.
A total of $5,750 was approved to help cover the cost of specialized equipment.
During discussion, councillors spoke about the program’s impact on participants.
“The smile on that child… you couldn’t wipe it off their face.”
The program operates out of Kinosoo Ridge and relies on both specialized equipment and trained volunteers.
Council approves $1.6 million bridge replacement project
Council has approved funding for a bridge replacement near Muriel Lake.

The project includes replacing a single-lane bridge at a total cost of approximately $1.675 million.
Funding will come primarily from the municipality’s Bridge Reserve.
