The County of St. Paul has approved attendance at an upcoming Elk Point seniors advocacy meeting as local officials continue to discuss transportation and senior supports in the area.

Administration said the advocacy group has been meeting for some time and is focused on improving services for seniors in Elk Point and surrounding communities. The latest request asked that local councillors and administration attend an April 7 meeting.

Councillors Daryl Young and Shane Smith, who have both been involved in past discussions, said the meetings have value.

“I think they’ve got some good ideas and stuff. I think they’re just struggling trying to get things moving,” one councillor said.

Administration added that one of the key concerns now being discussed is transportation for seniors travelling to Edmonton for appointments.

“I think it’s important for Shane and I to go there if nothing else to just kind of keep an ear to the ground of what’s going on,” council heard.
