Bonnyville council has approved 0,000 to create a master plan for the Bougie Ball Diamonds area, aiming to transform the site into a fully developed recreation hub over the next several years.
Administration emphasized the need to move away from reactive, one-off projects and toward a structured long-term vision.
“The intent of this planning initiative is to avoid piecemeal and reactive development… instead implement a structured phased approach.”
The plan will guide how the area is developed over time, aligning with the Town’s sports tourism strategy while helping coordinate infrastructure and funding.
“We’re planning two, three years in advance… we’re not just guessing year to year.”
The long-term vision could include expanded amenities, services and partnerships — including collaboration with the agricultural society to enhance nearby rodeo grounds.
The project is expected to move quickly, with administration indicating it could be tendered immediately.
“I would get it out for tender tomorrow… and hope that we could have this plan… done before fall.”
Council ultimately approved the funding from the general capital reserve.
