It’s not just households feeling the pressure of power bills.
The Town of St. Paul says it’s feeling it too — and now they’re joining others to speak up.
Council voted to support the Fair Electricity Distribution Alliance, a growing group of municipalities raising concerns about how electricity costs are structured in Alberta.
The discussion started with a real example close to home.
“We spend $5,000 a month for power… when we don’t have one light on for the summer.”
Much of that cost, council heard, comes from distribution and transmission fees — not actual usage.
Rather than staying quiet, council decided to add its name to a broader provincial conversation.
“It’s not a lobby thing… it’s just ‘hey government, pay attention to us because this is a concern for us.’”
The Town will now formally sign on as a supporter alongside other communities facing the same issue.
