Lakeland Catholic School Division is bringing a major new opportunity to student-athletes in Bonnyville with the launch of the St. Sebastian Sports Program.
A new option for student-athletes
Announced March 25, the program is designed for students in Grades 5 through 9 who want to grow both athletically and academically in a structured, faith-based environment.
The division says the goal is simple: give local students access to higher-level sports training without having to leave the community.
The program will run out of École Dr. Bernard Brosseau School and École Notre Dame High School, offering dedicated training in volleyball, baseball and softball, soccer, golf and hockey.
More than just sports
This is not just about competition.
Lakeland Catholic says the program will focus on building confidence, discipline and leadership, while still prioritizing academic success. The initiative is named after St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes, tying sport into the division’s broader focus on faith and character development.
Superintendent Sheldon Germain says the vision goes beyond athletics.
“Our goal is to create opportunities where students can pursue their passions while building the character and leadership that sport naturally develops,” he said. “The St. Sebastian program will help students grow not only as athletes, but as confident young leaders — giving families access to high-level training opportunities right here in our community.”
Parent information night set
Families interested in the program will have a chance to learn more at an upcoming information session:
- Date: April 9, 2026
- Time: 7:00 pm
- Location: École Dr. Bernard Brosseau School
Attendees will be able to meet coaches, staff and division leadership, and ask questions about training, expectations and enrolment.
More details coming
Lakeland Catholic says more announcements are on the way, including community partnerships, coaching staff and additional program supports ahead of a planned fall 2026 rollout.
The division says the program is about creating opportunities for local youth to grow, compete and succeed — both on and off the field.
