It doesn’t get much bigger than this. Lakeland College is coming off one of its most successful weekends in school history, with two women’s teams bringing home championship titles in the same weekend.
Hockey Rustlers Win ACAC Title in Double Overtime
The Lakeland Rustlers women’s hockey team are back-to-back ACAC champions after a 1-0 double-overtime win over the Red Deer Queens in Game 5 of the final.
The win didn’t come easy. Lakeland entered the weekend down 2-0 in the series and needed three straight wins to take the title. They delivered.
Claudia Lammers scored the only goal of the game midway through the second overtime period, sealing the championship on home ice in Lloydminster.
Keyra Buziak, the ACAC’s top scorer this season, was named playoff MVP.
The game stretched late into Sunday night in front of a packed crowd, with fans filling the arena and creating a loud playoff atmosphere from start to finish.
Volleyball Team Extends National Dynasty
While hockey was battling it out locally, the Rustlers women’s volleyball team was making national headlines.
Lakeland captured its fourth straight Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championship with a 3-1 win over Quebec’s Édouard-Montpetit in the final.
Each set was tight, but Lakeland found a way to close it out, continuing one of the most dominant runs in college volleyball in Canada.
Three graduating players — Avery Bates, Emma Jeffs and Seanna Trumier — leave the program as four-time national champions.
A Program Built on Culture and Support
The weekend highlighted more than just wins. It showed the strength of Lakeland’s athletic culture.
Teams supported each other across sports, with athletes travelling and showing up to cheer on their teammates despite busy schedules and long travel days.
From hockey to volleyball to basketball, the Rustlers program continues to build a reputation for both performance and team culture.
Big Moment for Lakeland Athletics
Two championships in one weekend doesn’t happen often.
For Lakeland College, it’s a clear sign their women’s programs are among the best in the country — and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
