GRADER OPERATOR – (Temporary Contract)

The Town of Bonnyville is seeking a skilled and safety-focused individual to join the Public Works Department as a Casual Grader Operator. This specialized role is responsible for maintaining and restoring the Town’s transportation network, with a focus on residential roads and municipal infrastructure.

Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Grader Operator ensures that streets and alleys remain safe, accessible, and properly maintained throughout changing seasonal conditions.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Alberta Driver’s License (Q Endorsement preferred).
Proven experience operating a grader, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment.
Ability to work extended hours, early mornings, and on-call rotations as required.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Strong understanding of safe equipment operation in residential and high-traffic areas.
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
Dependability, initiative, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in snow removal operations and seasonal road maintenance.
Experience working within municipal infrastructure or public works operations.
Knowledge of road grading techniques, drainage systems, and surface maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate grader equipment safely in residential areas, school zones, and near pedestrians.
Perform finish grading on gravel roads and back alleys to maintain proper crown and drainage.
Lead snow removal operations, including plowing, winging snowbanks, and clearing intersections.
Assist with seasonal transitions, including ice removal and spring cleanup of debris.
Conduct daily equipment inspections, including fluid checks, tire condition, lighting, and blade changes.
Maintain logs of hours worked, areas serviced, and report equipment issues or hazards.
Perform minor manual labour tasks as required, including lifting up to 20 kg and working on uneven terrain.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves outdoor work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Duties require physical activity such as walking on uneven surfaces, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. Work may involve long hours during peak seasonal demands such as heavy snowfall or spring thaw.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check required.
Must be available for on-call duties and emergency call-outs.
Compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Town policies.
