CASUAL LABOURER – SEASONAL (SPORT FIELD MAINTENANCE)

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs grant program. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment to meet funding eligibility requirements.

The Town of Bonnyville is seeking an energetic and athletic-minded individual to assist with the maintenance and preparation of sports fields and park spaces throughout the community. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on summer work experience in outdoor recreation and municipal operations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable abstract.
Physically capable of performing manual labour, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
Interest in sports and understanding of various field requirements.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety procedures.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or general labour.
Experience working with lawn care equipment and outdoor tools.
Knowledge of sports field preparation and maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare and maintain sports fields for various athletic activities.
Perform field marking and chalking, set up nets, bases, and equipment, and rake sand areas.
Assist in maintenance of green spaces, flower beds, and hanging baskets.
Operate lawn and landscaping equipment, including mowing and trimming.
Perform tree planting, pruning, and general park beautification.
Assist with playground and parks equipment maintenance.
Support Town programs and events, including community clean-up initiatives and Canada Day activities.
Work collaboratively with the summer parks crew and assist with other Public Works duties as required.
Follow all safety procedures, participate in safety meetings, and report hazards.
Perform other related duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Duties include prolonged walking, lifting, and working on uneven terrain, as well as bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements (ages 15–30).
Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.
Must comply with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Town policies.
