CASUAL LABOURER – SEASONAL (CANADA SUMMER JOBS)

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs grant program. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment to meet funding eligibility requirements.
The Town of Bonnyville is seeking motivated individuals to perform a variety of manual labour duties in support of Town programs, services, and events. This seasonal position runs from May to August 2026, with exact dates dependent on environmental factors and budget considerations.
HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (with occasional weekend and overtime work as required)
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of high school or equivalent.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable abstract.
Physically capable of performing manual labour, including lifting up to 50 lbs (20 kg).
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Strong communication skills (reading and writing).
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in general labour duties.
Experience operating equipment such as pickup trucks, trailers, mowers, and landscaping tools.
Experience in green space maintenance, construction, or municipal operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform manual labour related to water, sewer, garbage collection, snow removal, and road maintenance.
Assist with setup, maintenance, and removal of barricades, signage, and equipment.
Conduct green space maintenance including tree planting, pruning, and beautification.
Operate equipment such as pickup trucks, zero-turn mowers, push mowers, and weed trimmers.
Assist with pothole repair, crack filling, and line painting.
Perform flagging duties (training provided).
Support Town programs and events, including setup and takedown.
Maintain playgrounds, sports fields, and public spaces.
Perform minor equipment maintenance (fueling, cleaning, greasing).
Conduct regular vehicle inspections.
Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and reporting procedures.
Complete required training and documentation in a timely manner.
Perform other related duties as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Duties include lifting, walking on uneven terrain, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. Employees must demonstrate safe work practices and awareness when working near traffic, pedestrians, and equipment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements (ages 15–30).
Successful completion of pre-employment Alcohol and Drug Testing.
Must comply with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Town policies.
