Lakeland Rustlers Capture Fourth Straight ACAC Championship

Published On: March 8, 2026By

The Lakeland Rustlers women’s volleyball team refused to be denied.

Despite a season that began under unusual and challenging circumstances, the Rustlers battled back to win their fourth straight Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championship Sunday in Camrose.

Lakeland defeated the host Augustana Vikings in the final in front of a packed gym, completing a remarkable turnaround that seemed unlikely earlier in the season.

Season began with major hurdle

When the Rustlers finally opened their regular season in late November, they were already sitting 0–8 in the standings due to disciplinary sanctions issued earlier by the ACAC.

Instead of letting the setback derail their year, Lakeland responded with dominant play down the stretch. The Rustlers won all 11 of their remaining regular season matches, climbing back into playoff position and qualifying as the fourth seed from the North Division.

Championship pedigree continues

Once in the playoffs, Lakeland showed the same championship form that has defined the program in recent years.

The ACAC title adds to an already historic run for the Rustlers, who entered the season as the three-time defending Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national champions.

By capturing another conference championship, the Rustlers continue to cement their place as one of the most successful women’s collegiate volleyball programs in the country.

The victory now sends Lakeland forward with momentum as they pursue another national title.
