St. Paul Approves Ball Diamond Upgrades to Support Growing Minor Ball Program

Published On: February 26, 2026By

Three ball diamonds in St. Paul will soon be upgraded to accommodate older youth divisions after council approved a cost-sharing agreement with the County.

St. Paul Minor Ball approached council requesting support to enlarge the infields on Diamonds 1, 4 and 5 so they meet U15 and U18 regulation standards.

The changes will allow the diamonds to host higher-level youth games and tournaments — something the current field dimensions limit.

Council approved matching the County of St. Paul’s contribution up to $7,000, along with purchasing the required shale for the project. Minor Ball will reimburse the shale cost.

A local contractor has also committed to donating labour and equipment to help offset expenses, further stretching community dollars.

The upgrades are expected to improve playability, expand scheduling flexibility and allow multiple age groups to use the same facilities more effectively.

In practical terms, the improvements mean fewer restrictions for coaches, players and families — and more opportunity to host competitive games locally.

Council supported the project unanimously, recognizing the long-term benefit to youth sport and community recreation.

Construction timelines have not yet been announced.
