Snow Squall Watch in Effect for Cold Lake and Bonnyville Area
Brief but intense bands of snow are expected to hit the Lakeland today, with near-zero visibility possible at times.
Environment Canada has issued a Snow Squall Watch for the M.D. of Bonnyville near Cold Lake and the City of Cold Lake.
What to Expect
Snow squall bands developed over northern Alberta this morning and are tracking east or southeast.
These fast-moving systems can bring sudden, heavy snowfall combined with strong wind gusts up to 80 km/h or higher. Blowing snow may reduce visibility to near zero with little warning.
In the most intense squalls, lightning, thunder and even small hail are possible.
Conditions are expected to improve this evening.
Travel Could Be Hazardous
Drivers are urged to prepare for rapidly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may suddenly drop, making highways and rural roads especially dangerous.
Snow squall watches are issued when localized, intense snowfall may cause rapid accumulation or severely reduced visibility.
