Lac La Biche County Adopts 2026–2029 Strategic Action Plan
Lac La Biche County Council has officially adopted its 2026–2029 Strategic Action Plan — a four-year roadmap focused on growing the economy, strengthening families and building a true four-season region.
The plan centres on four transformational priorities: Recreation & Tourism, Social Wellness, Industry Growth and Education.
Council says this is not just a planning document — it is a commitment to measurable action and long-term opportunity.
Four Big Priorities
Recreation & Tourism: Building a Four-Season Destination
Council wants Lac La Biche County to be known as a year-round destination for both residents and visitors.
Near-term initiatives include advancing a winter recreation skiing and tubing hill pilot project, aimed at expanding four-season recreation opportunities.
The goal is simple: create experiences that keep families active locally and attract visitors throughout the year — not just in summer.
Social Wellness: Health, Housing and Families
Social Wellness focuses on supporting families at every stage of life.
Council plans to:
-
Secure land and advance concept planning for a Community Health Hub to support expanded primary care and coordinated health and wellness services
-
Move forward on a seniors housing strategy, advancing land and business case options for a full continuum of seniors living
-
Convert suitable spaces into new licensed childcare facilities to address local capacity needs
The County is also launching new bursary and “Stay & Grow” scholarship programs, designed to support students and encourage them to live and work locally after completing their education.
Industry Growth: Supporting Local Jobs
Industry Growth is about attracting businesses and helping families build careers close to home.
Council’s focus includes supporting business attraction, encouraging workforce development and ensuring Lac La Biche County remains competitive within the region.
The emphasis is not just on growth — but sustainable, data-informed growth that strengthens the local economy.
Education: Expanding Regional Training Excellence
Education is tied closely to workforce development.
The County plans to continue strengthening partnerships and expanding training pathways that allow residents to gain skills locally and transition into meaningful employment within the region.
Developed Through Community Engagement
Council says the Action Plan was developed through engagement with residents, businesses and community partners.
The document emphasizes measurable outcomes, phased implementation and partnership-driven delivery. The focus is on transparency and accountability as priorities move from paper into practice.
What It Means for Residents
This Strategic Action Plan is about more than a list of projects.
It signals where council intends to direct energy and resources over the next four years — toward recreation, housing, healthcare coordination, business development, education and family supports.
For Lac La Biche County, the message is clear: build opportunity locally, support families across all stages of life and strengthen the region in every season.
