County of St. Paul Approves Equipment Purchases, Supports Trail Society and Extends Scholarship Agreement
The County of St. Paul moved ahead on key operational decisions this week, approving new equipment purchases, backing a local trail initiative, and extending its scholarship agreement.
Two Steamers Approved
Council approved the purchase of two new steamers for Public Works after staff reported ongoing issues with aging units.
Scott told council the older machines are becoming unreliable.
“They’re very problematic and parts are getting obsolete for these old models.”
He also explained why the purchase was coming forward now.
“It’s just availability. That’s the only reason.”
The new steamers will replace units that are increasingly difficult to maintain, helping ensure reliable winter operations.
Graders Secured Pending Budget Approval
Council also agreed to place the County’s name on two new graders to secure availability, with final purchase approval to come during budget deliberations.
Again, timing was key.
“It’s just availability. That’s the only reason.”
By reserving the graders now, the County protects its place in line amid supply chain delays that continue to impact heavy equipment procurement.
Riverland Trail Gets County Support
Council approved a letter of support for the Riverland Recreational Trail Society as it applies for official TransCanada Trail designation.
The designation would elevate the profile of the local trail system and could open doors to future funding and tourism opportunities.
Scholarship Agreement Extended
Council also approved a one-year extension of the County’s existing scholarship agreement while broader policy reviews are underway.
The extension maintains support for students while administration reviews long-term scholarship policy structure.
