Seniors Housing Upgrade in St. Paul Moving Ahead After Delays
After months of uncertainty, the long-awaited seniors housing upgrades in St. Paul are officially moving forward.
Mayor Glenn Anderson confirmed that work tied to Sunnyside and the heritage homes is now stabilized and ready to proceed.
Bureaucracy Slowed the Timeline
Council had expected approvals earlier, but delays extended into the new year.
“I thought it would’ve been done then and we had it going by January 1st. That wasn’t the case,” Anderson said. “There was still some bureaucracy to work through.”
He admitted there was concern the project might stall.
“But finally, it is done,” he said. “Our committee is working its way through, we got the government… so look forward to that happening in St. Paul.”
Concerns About Tender Pricing
Anderson said one of his biggest concerns during the delay was supplier pricing.
“When you’re dealing with trades and tenders, there’s a time limit,” he said. “My concern was, will the suppliers honour the price on the tenders and is our price gonna go up?”
With approvals now in place, he expects visible progress soon.
“As the weather warms up, you’re gonna see things take off,” he said.
