In Loving Memory: Rose Mickalyk – Memento Funeral Chapel

It is with sadness that the family of Rose Mickalyk announces her peaceful passing with family by her side on February 5, 2026 in Bonnyville at the age of 92 years with family by her side.

Rose was born on June 11, 1933 in the Rife district near Glendon, Alberta. She was the first born child of William and Jennie Taschuk, and sister to Jeanne, John, Henry and Dick. In 1951, Rose married Peter Mickalyk who was also born near Glendon. They established their home and farm in the Eastbourne district where they raised a family of six children. Despite the hard work, Rose loved the farm life, gardening, flowers, berry-picking, sewing, cooking and being a vendor at the Bonnyville Farmers Market. After Peter passed in 2017, Rose remained on the farm until 2020. During the last years of her life, Rose received excellent and loving care at the Long Term Care centre in Bonnyville.

Rose will forever be remembered by her sons: Leonard (Tammy) Mickalyk, Lloyd (Brenda) Mickalyk, Morris (Madeline) Mickalyk; daughters: Maryann (Lyle) Urbanowski, Marilyn Mickalyk, Connie Dyrland (Stephen Malins); grandchildren: Bert (Michelle) Mickalyk, Bradley Mickalyk, Brandi (Spencer Pura), Justin Walsh, Dallas Gordon, Robyn Rasmussen (Luis Calderon Porro), Lisa (Kevin) Althouse, Jeffrey (Amanda) Urbanowski, Ryan (Megan) Mickalyk, Chad Mickalyk (Megan Whyte), Corrine Ryan (Ted Watkins), Chelsy (Damon) Stewart, Boyd (Mitzi) Bruce, Elissa Bruce; step-grandchildren: Brandon Nugis, Amanda Nugis; great grandchildren: Kaydence Mickalyk, Adalyn Pura, Oaklee Pura, Ashlee Rasmussen, Kayla Rasmussen, Taylor (Madisson) Althouse, Carter Althouse, Sawyer Althouse, Emry-Rose Ryan, Mya Mickalyk, Ty Stewart, Bentley Stewart, Brooke Bruce, Brock Bruce, Braelynn Bruce, Bekkah Bruce, SohnaRose Ashab Yamin, Thomas Gemmill and several step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Fran Tash and Doris Pchajek; step-brother: Leonard Kalinski; step sister-in-law; Lillian Kalinski, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her husband: Peter Mickalyk; son-in-law: Alwin Dyrland; sister: Jeanne (David) Werstiuk; brothers: John Tash, Henry Taschuk, Dick (Aleta) Taschuk; step-brother: Jerry Kalinski.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 12, 2026 at Memento Funeral Chapel in Bonnyville with Pastor Terry Luciow officiating, and interment in the Glendon Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers: Gordon Werstiuk, Lorne Mickalyk, Kevin Mickalyk, Ken Krawchuk, Harvey Krawchuk, Bill Brunton. Following interment, family and friends are invited to a hot lunch at Eastbourne Community Hall at 1:00 p.m.
