It is with both deep sadness and quiet joy that the family of Edith Sawchuk announces that on February 7, 2026, God called their beloved Mother and Grandmother home. She lived most of her long, full life in the Bonnyville area where she was an active member of the community and her church. She passed away peacefully in her sleep just hours before her 93rd birthday at the care facility in Leduc, Alberta where she had resided for almost five years.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Carolyn (Dale) Krizan, Dennis (Sharon) Sawchuk, Bryan Sawchuk, Sherry (Wes) Pitzel; grandchildren: Rhonda Krizan (Alex Patterson), Brent Krizan (Santi Yayuk), Melissa Pitzel; brother: Carl Ljunggren (Janet Snow); brothers-in-law: Louis Hochachka, Wayne Belore; sister-in-law: Jean Belore; Edith also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband: William “Bill” Sawchuk on March 13, 2004; parents: Axel & Anna Ljunggren; sisters: Andrea Palmer, Lil Naylor, Mildred Vasseur, June Johnson; brothers-in-law: William Palmer, Bob Naylor, George Vasseur, David Sawchuk, Pete Karas, John Sarawanski, George Buckle, Harry Sidor; sisters-in-law: Irene Karas, Tillie Sarawanski, Anne Hochachka, Liz Buckle, Lucy Sidor, Tanya Richardson.
Public Visitation, Friday, February 13, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m, Memento Funeral Chapel, Bonnyville, Alberta.
Service of Remembrance, Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 1:30 p.m., Bonnyville Fellowship Alliance Church, Bonnyville, Alberta with Pastor Trevor Schaffrick officiating. Pallbearers: Bill Bird, Jack Clarke, Robert Naylor, Melvin Palmer, Randy Vasseur, Darcy Vasseur.

The family would like to acknowledge the Staff and Caregivers of Sainbury Lane, Lifestyle Options, Leduc for the loving care they provided for Edith for over 4 and a half years.
