Stolen $50,000 Tractor Recovered After RCMP Track Suspect Across Field in Cold Lake
A stolen Kubota tractor valued at ,000 was recovered after a multi-unit RCMP operation that ended with the suspect getting stuck in a field and taken into custody.
Tractor Theft Reported from Cold Lake First Nations
Cold Lake RCMP say the tractor was reported stolen on Jan. 5, 2026, from Cold Lake First Nations.
Nearly three weeks later, on Jan. 28, police located the tractor while it was in motion. When officers attempted to stop it, the driver fled.
Police Track Tractor Using Air and Ground Units
With assistance from multiple specialized RCMP units, officers tracked the fleeing tractor across the area. The operation included support from:
- Alberta RCMP Real Time Operation Center
- Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services
- Cold Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Unit
- Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit
- Alberta RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems
The pursuit ended when the tractor became stuck in a field, allowing RCMP to safely arrest the suspect.
Charges Laid
As a result of the investigation, Jeremy Scanie, 38, a resident of Cold Lake First Nations, has been charged with:
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000
- Break and enter
- Obstruct police
- Mischief under $5,000
- Failure to stop
- Failure to comply with probation condition
- Failure to comply with court order
- Court Appearance Scheduled
Scanie was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Feb. 9, 2026.
