Nearly 1,000 Tickets Issued as Alberta RCMP Ramp Up Holiday Traffic Enforcement
Alberta RCMP say enhanced traffic enforcement over the Christmas holidays resulted in nearly 1,000 tickets and multiple fatalities on provincial roads.
From Dec. 24 to Dec. 31, 2025, Alberta RCMP conducted increased traffic safety patrols across the province, issuing a total of 998 tickets.
Speeding and Distracted Driving Lead Violations
Of the tickets issued, speeding remained the most common offence, accounting for 242 violations. Police also handed out 31 tickets for distracted driving and 21 for seatbelt infractions.
In addition to ticketed offences, RCMP removed 121 drivers from the road for impairment due to drugs or alcohol. That included 80 Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILs and 23 IRS WARNs.
Collisions and Fatalities Reported
Despite the enforcement efforts, RCMP report 99 non-fatal injury collisions during the holiday period. Tragically, six fatal collisions occurred, resulting in seven deaths.
“We are never happy to report fatal motor vehicle collisions,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Everyone should have been able to make it home safely for the holidays.”
Call Police if You Suspect Impaired Driving
RCMP are reminding Albertans to look out for one another on the roads and to take action if they believe someone is driving impaired.
“If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately,” Turnbull said.
Police continue to urge drivers to slow down, stay focused, buckle up, and never drive under the influence, especially during busy travel periods.
