Bonnyville Pushes Ahead With Two Major Projects: Downtown and Jesse Lake Upgrades Continue

Published On: December 8, 2025By

Bonnyville is moving forward on two of its most talked-about improvement projects, and Mayor Elisa Brosseau says both the downtown revitalization plan and the Jesse Lake trail upgrades are entering critical next steps. The community’s input, she adds, has shaped nearly every decision so far.

Downtown Revitalization Gains Momentum

The Town’s downtown survey drew a strong response, giving council a clear roadmap of what residents and businesses want to see right away and what can evolve.

Top priorities included:
▪️ More accessible parking
▪️ Cleaner, safer streets
▪️ Improved lighting
▪️ Better pedestrian flow
▪️ Stronger support for small businesses

Brosseau said the feedback has been invaluable. “People care deeply about the future of our downtown. Their input is guiding our next steps,” she explained.

Administration is now refining recommendations for council to review in the new year. Some improvements could begin quickly, depending on the budget, while others will be part of longer-term capital planning.

Jesse Lake Project Remains a Community Favourite

While downtown discussions continue, the Jesse Lake trail project is also moving ahead. The Town is preparing for staged upgrades to improve the overall experience at one of Bonnyville’s most treasured recreation areas.

Planned updates include:
▪️ Expanded and better-designed parking
▪️ Improved trail surfaces
▪️ More accessible connections for all users
▪️ Long-term enhancements that complement surrounding natural spaces

Public feedback confirmed what council already knew: Jesse Lake is a priority for residents. Walkers, runners, families and cyclists consistently list it as one of the community’s top assets.

Two Projects, One Goal: A Better Bonnyville

Brosseau says the pairing of these initiatives shows how the Town is balancing investment in recreation with economic vibrancy.

“The downtown supports our businesses and the look and feel of our community. Jesse Lake supports our quality of life,” she said. “Both matter, and both need thoughtful, steady progress.”

With survey data in hand and design work underway, the Mayor expects more detailed updates to come early in the new year as both projects continue their forward momentum.
