Upgrades Continue at the Bonnyville Health Centre as Access to Care Expands
The Bonnyville Health Centre is undergoing a series of significant upgrades to improve access to care, expand capacity, and modernize essential services. Some changes are already in place, while others are underway or soon to begin.
Completed Improvements
The site has strengthened its security measures and returned the obstetrics unit to its original wing. Obstetrics had been temporarily merged with another department during the COVID due to staffing shortages. With successful recruitment efforts and improved staffing levels, the programme has now been fully restored to its pre-pandemic setup.
Emergency Department Expansion
One of the biggest projects on the horizon is a significant renovation of the Emergency Department. Plans include doubling the seating in the waiting area from 10 to 20 spaces and adding a dedicated triage room, allowing staff to assess and prioritize patients more efficiently. The expansion aims to reduce congestion, improve patient flow, and support a growing population.
Renovation of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department
The Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDMR), which manages the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments, is also being upgraded. This area plays a critical role in daily operations and enables the site to perform surgeries safely. While the renovation is active, no completion date has been confirmed.
Community Support at the Core
The health centre emphasizes that these improvements reflect the dedication of staff, the support of Covenant Health recruitment teams, and the generosity of the Bonnyville Health Foundation and local donors. The continued investment in the facility is seen as a collaborative effort between the hospital and the community it serves.
