Pontiacs’ Rookie Sensation Gavin Harrison Signs WHL Agreement with Swift Current Broncos
If you’ve been watching AJHL hockey this season, you already know the name Gavin Harrison.
The Cold Lake product hasn’t just “settled in” with the Bonnyville Pontiacs — he’s blown the doors off the league as a rookie, putting himself on the national radar and now earning a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Swift Current Broncos.
And here’s the best part for Pontiac’s fans:
He’s still in Bonnyville.
He’s still scoring.
He’s still driving play.
He’s still one of the most exciting rookies in junior hockey.
Leading All AJHL Rookies — and He’s Only 16
Through 19 games of the 2025–26 regular season, Harrison has been on an absolute heater:
2025–26 Bonnyville Pontiacs
- GP: 19
- G: 9
- A: 17
- PTS: 26
- GWG: 3
He leads all AJHL rookies in points and assists, and he’s doing it while playing meaningful minutes on a competitive Pontiacs roster.
When you watch him, it makes sense:
He thinks the game fast.
He plays even faster.
And he’s fearless with the puck.
That’s a rare combo at 16.
A Seventh-Round Pick Playing Like a Steal
The Broncos grabbed Harrison in the 7th round (150th overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, but you wouldn’t know it from how he’s playing.
Before landing in Bonnyville, he spent last season with Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) U18 Prep, putting up 29 points in 36 games — a strong showing in one of the top prep programs in the country.
The jump to junior usually humbles players.
Harrison didn’t blink.
“It’s been great so far.” — Harrison on fitting in instantly
Just before the signing became official, I caught up with Gavin during Michael Menzies’ interview on Lakeland Connect.
Here’s the vibe I got:
He’s calm.
He’s locked in.
He’s not surprised by his success — he expects it from himself.
“It’s been great so far. The older guys have really helped me and shown me the ways through the league.”
That’s exactly how mature players talk.
And it’s exactly how elite players think.
Asked about how it feels now that everything’s clicking?
“It feels good… hopefully I can keep it up.”
That’s a kid who knows there’s more in the tank.
Handling Weird Situations Like a Vet
Earlier this season, the Pontiacs had that bizarre game against the Devon Xtreme — the one that had to be stopped and restarted.
Most rookies would be rattled.
Not Harrison.
“Pretty cool and weird at the same time,” he laughed.
“But we did a pretty good job.”
Cool, weird, whatever — he just goes out and plays.
Broncos Add Harrison to the Pipeline
With the WHL agreement signed, the Swift Current Broncos officially welcomed Gavin and the Harrison family to the organization.
He’ll stay with the Pontiacs for now — developing, producing, and filling the highlight reel — while the WHL door opens wider every day.
It’s the perfect setup for a player on the rise.
Cold Lake kid.
Bonnyville rookie sensation.
WHL-signed prospect.
That’s the Lakeland hockey pipeline doing what it does best: producing competitors who work, battle, and earn every inch.
Gavin Harrison is the latest in that line — and by the looks of it, he won’t be the last.
Keep your eyes on him.
He’s not just having a good rookie year.
He’s building something special.
