Voyageurs Hammer Pincher Creek 53–0 in a Statement Win
If you felt the ground shaking in Bonnyville on Saturday, don’t worry — that wasn’t an earthquake. That was just the Voyageurs offensive line clearing space like they were late for supper, and the defence slamming the door so hard Pincher Creek might still be looking for the handle.
Final score? 53–0.
No typo. No mercy. Just good, honest, small-town Alberta football.
And now the road leads straight to semi-finals in Bonnyville next week, where this town is expected to get louder than the speakers at the Cold Lake Air Show.
Pre-Game Mindset with Coach Rohdy Reed
Before the game even kicked off, I chatted with Coach Rohdy Reed, who had the boys dialled in like they were prepping for a final exam where the only subject is “Hit Everything That Moves.”
Rohdy stressed how this group has been building something steady:
“It’s all about team dynamics and trusting the guy beside you. The individual skills matter, but they only shine when the whole unit is working.”
He also touched on the respect they have for their opponent:
“Pincher Creek has history. They’ve earned it. You can’t take them lightly — you prepare the right way, and you show up ready.”
Well… they showed up, alright.
**Post-Game with Coach Larry Godziuk:
‘Teamwork, Respect, and Playing the Right Way’**
After the dust settled — early, might I add — I grabbed Coach Larry Godziuk for the post-game live.
He summed up the spirit of the win better than anyone:
“Today was teamwork, respect, and playing the right way.”
Simple. Honest. And exactly what you want to hear from the man steering the ship.
Larry also made a point of highlighting what makes this group so easy to root for:
“Every guy worked, supported each other, and we were proud to get every athlete some field time.”
That’s not padding stats. That’s building a program.
And yes — he threw down the challenge to the whole town:
“Semi-finals at home… we need this place rocking.”
Message received.
#67 Caleb Dejarlais: ‘We Trusted Each Other’
Then came #67 Caleb Dejarlais, who played like he had somewhere important to be in the backfield on every down.
He kept it honest and straightforward:
“We trusted each other out there. Everybody did their job. That’s why it looked the way it did.”
You want a championship mentality?
That’s what it sounds like from a lineman with grass stains in his teeth.
And he didn’t shy away from a little playoff energy:
“If we keep playing like that… good luck to whoever’s next.”
Somewhere, a future opponent got a sudden chill.
Halftime Hype with Jack Mahon
At halftime, I caught up with defensive line hammer Jack Mahon, who came into the interview looking like he’d just sprinted out of a bear trap.
Jack kept it brutally honest:
“We came to work.”
No fluff. No fancy words. Just the truth from a man who clearly meant business.
He also hammered home the defensive mindset:
“We’re not letting up.”
And the scoreboard confirmed he wasn’t lying.
A Statement Win… and a Bigger Test Ahead
This wasn’t just a 53–0 win.
This was a declaration:
-
Trust each other
-
Play disciplined
-
Do your job
-
Lift your teammates
-
And make sure every kid gets to step on the field
That’s how you build something that lasts longer than a single playoff run.
Next week, the semi-finals come to Bonnyville.
If this group keeps playing the way they did today, the only thing louder than the fans might be the pads colliding on the field.
So dust off the cowbells, warm up the vocal cords, and get ready to shake the bleachers.
This is our house.
Let’s make sure everyone knows it.
