Last Updated: November 17, 2025By

Bonnyville RCMP is warning residents to use caution when buying items online after receiving several fraud complaints involving a truck bed company operating out of Bonnyville.

According to RCMP, allegations include:

▪️ Requesting payment without ever providing the product
▪️ Asking customers for additional money for “expenses” before releasing items
▪️ Operating under fake names and using addresses not connected to the business

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing but issued the advisory to prevent further victimisation.

RCMP Urge Buyers to Use Caution

Police are strongly encouraging the public to take extra care when purchasing through Facebook Marketplace or similar platforms and to verify that a business is legitimate through official channels before sending money or agreeing to a sale.

Anyone who has experienced a financial loss connected to this seller is asked to call the Bonnyville RCMP non-emergency line at 780-343-7200 to file a report.

The detachment also reminds residents that its parking lot includes a designated safe exchange zone for completing online purchases in a secure, public location.

Safety Tips for Online Purchases

RCMP recommend the following precautions:

▪️ Meet in a safe public place, preferably a police detachment
▪️ Never send money before seeing and inspecting the item in person
▪️ Use cash when possible; avoid e-transfers unless you fully trust the seller
▪️ Bring another person with you for the exchange
▪️ Never share your location, personal details or financial information

Police say these steps can significantly reduce the risk of fraud when buying or selling items online.
