Aurore Pruneau Obituary

In loving memory of Aurore Cecile Pruneau September 16, 1938 – October 27, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and mémère, Aurore Cecile Pruneau, on October 27, 2025. Mom was born in St. Paul, Alberta on September 16, 1938, to parents Maurice and Yvonne Roberge. She was the eldest daughter of 16 children and was no stranger to hard work and a servant at heart. She grew up caring for her siblings and was often sent to help neighbouring families when new babies arrived, receiving little or no compensation. In 1959 she married the love of her life, after meeting dad, Jean Claude Pruneau, and started a family of her own. She often said, “I loved him from the first time I met him”. Sadly, Mom was predeceased by dad (pépère) in 2020.

In their 61 years of marriage, their love was strong and they raised their family together. They had five children: Gaston, predeceased 2014, (Karen Williams) Pruneau, Robert (Diane) Pruneau, Bert (Laura) Pruneau, Valerie (Mark) Allemekinders, Joanne (Scott) Gauthier; fourteen grandchildren: Gaétan, Kendrick, Kate, Bryan, Bryce, Amy, Ryan, Brooke, Matthew, Nathan, Zachery, Gregg, Elizabeth, Claudia; ten great grandchildren; Micah, Asher, Alex, Lilly, Mylo, Theo, Oliver, Barlow, Georgie, and Hugo.

Mom’s love for her own children was extended to many young families in town when she daycared them in her own home. She also worked part-time for over 25 years as the second-floor custodian of the St. Paul Elementary school where her pride of a job well done shone, especially in the bathrooms! Mom and dad enjoyed spending time with her siblings and weekends often found many extended family around the kitchen table playing cards. As empty nesters, they did may things together, like dad helping mom with the many part-time janitorial jobs she did. Some even surprised us, like when they took dance lessons because mom didn’t know how to dance at her wedding and always wanted to learn. When dad turned 65, they moved to Edmonton, where mom said dad could truly retire. Their focus shifted to enjoying the city and helping with the grandbabies that were living there and when dad’s health deteriorated, they moved back to St. Paul to be closer to mom’s siblings and a quieter life. Mom’s heart broke when dad died, but she pushed through by keeping busy with local grand and great-grandkids, and enjoying family gatherings, her joy overflowing whenever surrounded by those she loved.

Mom, we knew this day would come, but not in the way we ever imagined. Your love for family and your work ethic are instilled in us, and you will be forever in our hearts and memories. May you be at peace, your work here is done, rest well mémère.

Memorial Service, Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., St. Paul Cathedral, St. Paul, Alberta. Aurore will be laid to rest next to her devoted husband Claude at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Paul, Alberta. The family invites everyone to join them for a light snack and refreshments at the Reunion Station following the graveside service.
