May 8, 1933 – November 2, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce Joanell Alden of Bonnyville has passed away peacefully, with her son by her side, at the age of 92 years.
Joanell will be lovingly remembered by her son; Neall and his wife Janaye, her 2 sisters; Vera Mercier and Ann McKoryk, her sister-in-law; Mary Solowoniuk and many, many nieces and nephews.
Born in Iron River Alberta, Joanell was the 5th of 7 Solowoniuk children. Joanell trained as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton and traveled to Hawaii, Oregon, and California to work as a travel nurse. During her time in the USA, she gave birth to her only son Neall in Redwood City, California July 1973 and moved back to Bonnyville where she served the community as a nurse at the Bonnyville Health Centre for over 40 years. Joanell spent the last 3 years under the care of the amazing Long Term Care staff at the very same hospital she dedicated a large part of her life to. Her nursing uniform and graduation cape are proudly displayed at the Bonnyville Museum.
Joanell was predeceased by her parents; Bernice Solowoniuk and John Solowoniuk, 3 brothers; Nick Solowoniuk, Walter (Mildred) Solowoniuk, and Ed (Linda) Solowoniuk, her sister; Mary (William) Bellamy, and 2 brothers in law; Edward Mercier and Mike McKoryk.
A celebration of life will be held at the Alberta Room, (Neighbourhood Inn) on November 29th at 11am.
