City of Cold Lake Approves $10,000 Grant for 4 Wing’s ‘Fallen Heroes’ Film and ‘Mission Afghanistan’ Exhibit
The City of Cold Lake has approved a $10,000 grant to support 4 Wing Cold Lake’s upcoming community event, featuring the documentary Fallen Heroes: Their Journey Home and the interactive exhibit Mission Afghanistan.
Set to take place in January 2026 at Cold Lake High School and the Energy Centre, the project will honour Canadian Armed Forces members who served in Afghanistan.
The funding request was brought forward by Captain Tom Garbe and Major Karl Braschuck of 4 Wing during a September 23 council presentation. City administration later advised that the funding structure was somewhat unique, as it would be processed through a federal-to-municipal sponsorship arrangement rather than a standard community grant.
Mayor Craig Copeland noted council’s appreciation for the initiative and said efforts are being made to engage local companies in sponsorship discussions to help enhance the event.
Council voted to approve the $10,000 contribution, which will be drawn from the Council Goodwill fund. The decision continues Cold Lake’s longstanding support of 4 Wing and its role in preserving Canada’s military history and community connection.
