Meet the Candidate Barry Kalinski: Continuing the Work, Strengthening the Future
Reeve aims to lead the MD of Bonnyville through growth and renewal
With more than a decade of council experience and a steady record of leadership, Reeve Barry Kalinski is asking residents of the Municipal District of Bonnyville to place their trust in him once again.
Kalinski, who has served as Reeve since 2021 after ten years as Ward 4 councillor, says the district is entering a pivotal time — one that calls for both fresh ideas and seasoned leadership.
“This next council will bring new energy and perspectives, which is great for our region,” Kalinski said. “But experience matters too. We need someone who can guide discussions and help us work together toward common goals.”
Community first, always
Throughout his time in office, Kalinski has focused on keeping the ratepayers’ interests front and centre. His philosophy is simple: make decisions that serve the community, not personal agendas.
“Transparency and accountability aren’t just talking points — they’re how we earn and keep people’s trust,” he said. “Every tax dollar should be respected, and every decision should improve life in our district.”
His priorities include:
-
Responsible fiscal management
-
Investment in infrastructure and core services
-
Open, considerate decision-making
-
Building unity among council and staff
-
Fostering strong relationships with regional partners
A Reeve who listens
Kalinski’s leadership style is collaborative. He believes the Reeve’s role is less about authority and more about bringing people together.
“Good leadership is about listening,” he said. “It’s about helping council find consensus and ensuring administration has the tools to deliver the best for our residents.”
He credits the MD’s staff for their dedication and professionalism, noting that building a positive workplace culture has been one of the quiet successes of the last term.
Looking ahead
As he seeks re-election, Kalinski says there’s still work to do — particularly in supporting local industry, improving roads and infrastructure, and enhancing community amenities that make the MD of Bonnyville a place people are proud to live.
“We’re growing, and we have the chance to shape that growth in a way that keeps our rural character intact,” he said. “That’s what I want to continue doing — with honesty, care, and accountability.”
Residents will head to the polls on Monday, October 20.
