Lenora’s No Frills Pumpkins in the Park Replaces Safe and Sweet Halloween in St. Paul

Last Updated: October 14, 2025By

Halloween night in St. Paul will take on a new look this year as the St. Paul Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) launches Lenora’s No Frills Pumpkins in the Park on Oct. 31 at Lagasse Park.

A Fresh Take on a Community Favourite

The long-running Safe and Sweet Halloween event has been reimagined to bring people together in new ways. FCSS Director Brenda Billo explained that the goal is to help rebuild community connection and face-to-face interaction after years of social changes brought by the pandemic.

The free event will run from 7 to 8 p.m., following the Town of St. Paul’s official trick-or-treating hours. Families can stroll through a 300-metre pumpkin-lit pathway, enjoy trick-or-treat stations, play games, take photos, and enter a pumpkin carving contest. Hot chocolate will be served, and the evening will wrap up with a pumpkin drop hosted by the St. Paul Fire Department. Afterward, those looking for more Halloween fun can head to the Elite Theatre for a showing of It. Costumes are encouraged.

Community Involvement Encouraged

Pumpkins for the event are being supplied by Lenora’s No Frills, and community members, groups, and businesses are invited to take part by carving pumpkins for the display. Only 200 pumpkins are available, so participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carved pumpkins can be picked up and returned to FCSS before Halloween to be featured along the illuminated trail. Businesses and groups can also help by donating candy or funds to support the event, with contributions accepted until Oct. 24.

Anyone interested in volunteering, carving pumpkins, or setting up a trick-or-treat station can contact FCSS at 780-645-5311 or email bbillo@town.stpaul.ab.ca.

This year’s Pumpkins in the Park promises a glowing new way for families to celebrate Halloween—one that puts connection, creativity, and community at the heart of the holiday.
