Cold Lake RCMP Seize Firearms, Stolen Vehicle in Arrest

Cold Lake RCMP say proactive patrols led to the seizure of firearms and stolen property on Sept. 25, 2025.

Officers noticed a stolen pickup truck parked at a residence. The occupants told police they did not recognize the vehicle, sparking further investigation. RCMP later identified another residence tied to stolen property and obtained a search warrant.

When officers arrived, a suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle. A Tire Deflation Device was deployed, stopping the vehicle and leading to an arrest.

Seized Items

The search warrant turned up:

  • 2 shotguns

  • Ammunition

  • A machete

  • A stolen vehicle

  • A stolen licence plate

Charges Laid

Simon Cardinal, 32, of Cold Lake has been charged with:

  • Failure to stop

  • Driving while prohibited

  • Dangerous driving

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000

  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x3)

  • Firearm-related offences (x5)

Cardinal was remanded into custody following a justice of the peace hearing. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Oct. 15, 2025.
