Fort Kent Man Charged After Stolen Vehicle Chase

Last Updated: September 25, 2025By

A police tip led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Fort Kent man after a stolen vehicle was tracked and stopped by RCMP on September 23, 2025.

Police say a stolen vehicle was found parked on property in Fort Kent. When a male suspect left the residence, officers set up surveillance. A tire deflation device was deployed, and the vehicle fled into a field where it was later found abandoned.

With support from a police dog, the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, an RPAS drone, and officers from the Cold Lake detachment, the suspect was located and arrested.

Charges Laid

Sam Nunweiler, 23, of Fort Kent, has been charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property

  • Dangerous operation

  • Driving while disqualified

Nunweiler was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 7, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville.

A History with Police

Nunweiler is no stranger to RCMP investigations.

At age 19, Nunweiler was arrested after trying to flee police in Bonnyville. He was charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, driving while prohibited, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and multiple Traffic Safety Act offences, including driving without a licence, insurance, or registration.

In 2022, he and a female were charged after police discovered stolen goods being sold online. Officers recovered the property along with firearms and drugs during a search warrant, leading to several firearms and possession charges. Nunweiler also faced three counts of failing to comply with release conditions at the time.

In December 2024, Nunweiler and the same female were again arrested after an armed carjacking in Bonnyville. Police say Nunweiler allegedly pulled a knife on the victim, crashed the stolen truck into parked vehicles, and fled before being tracked down to a nearby apartment. He was charged with robbery with a weapon, four counts of mischief over $5,000, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Those incidents, combined with his most recent arrest in Fort Kent, show a continued pattern of charges connected to stolen vehicles, weapons, and repeated breaches of the law.
