Two Arrested in Walmart Stabbing, Victims Seriously Injured
Two people have been arrested after a stabbing in the Walmart parking lot left two men seriously injured in the early hours of Sept. 8, 2025. Cold Lake RCMP say the incident was targeted and not random.
“We understand that these kinds of situations can create a lot of fear within our community,” said Cpl. Benjamin Burgess of the Cold Lake GIS. “We want to take this time to reassure the public that our investigation suggests that the victims were known to the suspects and that this was not a random attack or event.”
The Incident
Around 3:05 a.m., RCMP responded to a call of two injured and unresponsive males. Officers determined the men had been stabbed. Both were transported to hospital in serious condition but have survived their injuries.
The Charges
The investigation, supported by the Cold Lake General Investigation Section (GIS), Bonnyville GIS, and the RCMP Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (EAD CRU), led to the arrest of two suspects:
Curtis McKay (18), of Cold Lake, has been charged with:
- Two counts of attempted murder
- Two counts of aggravated assault
- Two counts of robbery with a weapon
Monica Jacknife (29), of Cold Lake, has been charged with:
- Two counts of aggravated assault
Both were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. McKay will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Sept. 24, 2025, while Jacknife is set to appear on Oct. 15, 2025.
