Bonnyville EMS First in Alberta to Use LIFEPAK 35 Defibrillators

Last Updated: September 2, 2025By

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) has become the first emergency medical services provider in Alberta – and one of the first in Canada – to roll out the new LIFEPAK 35 monitor/defibrillators.

A Leap in Critical Care Technology

The LIFEPAK 35 is designed to give paramedics cutting-edge tools for cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, pacing, and real-time data transmission. The new units replace older models and bring improved usability, durability, and compatibility with hospital systems. This means patient information can flow seamlessly from ambulance to emergency room, improving continuity of care.

“This milestone demonstrates BRFA’s leadership in advancing pre-hospital emergency care,” said Alicia Krawchuk, Regional Chief of Emergency Services. “Being the first EMS organisation in Alberta to implement the LIFEPAK 35 reflects our commitment to ensuring our paramedics have the very best tools to save lives when every second counts.”

Better Care, Faster Response

The advanced monitors will be vital during cardiac emergencies, trauma incidents, and other critical calls.

“Our EMS Division is excited to bring this technology to the communities we serve,” said Ken Hesson, BRFA Deputy Chief of Paramedic Operations. “Whether responding to cardiac emergencies, trauma, or critical medical calls, the LIFEPAK 35 strengthens our ability to provide timely and effective interventions.”

Community Support

The rollout is part of BRFA’s broader modernisation plan to keep pace with best practices in emergency care and meet the needs of a growing population. BRFA extended thanks to CEDA Bonnyville for its support in making the project possible.
