Bonnyville RCMP weekly report: Assault with crowbar, breaking conditions, returning an ATV
The Bonnyville RCMP were involved in 150 investigations between August 9-15.
Assault with crowbar
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 38-year-old Preston McCarthy following an incident in Kehewin.
Police were dispatched on Aug. 12 just before 7:00PM. Bonnyville RCMP say a man who was on unrelated probation and court conditions assaulted another male with a crowbar.
The suspect, McCarthy, allegedly fled the scene and has been evading RCMP ever since.
He is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Breaching Probation and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order.
There’s currently a warrant out for his arrest. Anyone with information on McCarthy’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Bonnyville RCMP.
Driving sanctions, suspected impaired
On Aug. 13 just after midnight, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP was patrolling Highway 28 near Bonnyville and observed a driver swerving and failing to slow down to 70 km/hr as he approached Bonnyville.
Police conducted a roadside check and immediately noted signs of impairment, RCMP say.
A roadside breath demand was provided, but the 49-year-old male driver from St. Paul refused to provide a proper breath sample.
As a result, he was issued impaired driving sanctions, which comes with a $1200 fine, his vehicle being towed, and his licence suspended.
His name was not released.
Breached conditions
Multiple recent conditions breaches of a 44-year-old Bonnyville man may lead to the rest of his criminal sentence being served in custody.
On March 24, 2025, Robert Poole was convicted of two counts of Possession of Stolen Property, resulting in a nine month conditional sentence order.
According to police, this means he was allowed to serve his sentence in the community and report regularly to probation.
However, on July 29, Poole was found to be breaching a condition of that sentence order and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Aug. 14, Poole was found to be breaching his sentence order again and was arrested by Bonnyville RCMP.
The matter is before the courts where it will be determined whether the remainder of his nine month sentence will be served in custody, RCMP say.
Is this your ATV?
