Lakeland’s Canada Day celebrations unpacked

As July 1st quickly approaches, communities across the Lakeland are getting ready to celebrate Canada Day.

Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul and Elk Point are pulling out all the stops when it comes to celebrating the 158th year of Canada. Local groups, volunteers, and families are preparing for a day that brings people together to relax, reflect, and kick off the summer within their community.

Bonnyville’s celebrations kick off with the morning tradition of a pancake breakfast in the Sobeys parking lot, then get ready for the Opening Ceremonies at 1:00PM, the parade at 3:00PM, and the Party in the Park which will lead into the night time entertainment.

Buckhorn Steel will take the stage at 9:00PM, with Charlie Major following at 10:00PM. Fireworks will go off at dusk.

Cold Lake has a full day of activities beginning with the parade at 10:00PM, then a C-18 fly-by at 11:00PM.

From 11:00AM-4:00PM, roam around Kinosoo Beach for all of the Canada Day activities, vendors and performances. This year, enjoy Taylor Swift tribute act Carla Sacco at 6:00PM, followed by Mainstreet Band at 8:00PM. Fireworks at 11:00PM.

The kick off to St. Paul’s celebrations will also be a pancake breakfast at 8:00AM at the Legion.

From 11:00AM-4:30PM, enjoy entertainment and activities such as a petting zoo, the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre, a circus performance, and much more.

Finish the evening off with a fundraiser BBQ at 6:00PM, and a Celebration of Canadian Fiddling at 9:00PM and end the day with fireworks  

Finally, head into Elk Point to take in two days worth of activities. Elk Point’s Canada Day celebrations get started the night before on Monday with a ball game at 6:30PM, a soap box car race, beer gardens and a karaoke party.

Plus, take in the fireworks at 11:00PM on the 30th. Moving into July 1st, enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Library at 8:00AM, then watch the parade at 11:00AM.

From 11:00AM-7:30PM, enjoy many different daily activities including family activities, a dog agility competition, and a charity BBQ. End the night with a free screening of ‘Wild Robot’ at the arena.
